Courtesy Call on the President of Sri Lanka H.E. Mahinda Rajapaksa by the Foreign Minister of Japan

Japanese Foreign Minister Taro Aso paid a courtesy call on Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa on April 3 on the sidelines of the 14th SAARC Summit in New Delhi.

President Rajapaksa briefed Japanese Foreign Minister Aso on the current situation in Sri Lanka and the deliberations of the All party Representatives Committee (APRC) set up to develop a framework for maximum devolution of power. President Rjapaksa indicated that his government would give careful consideration to the proposals of the APRC which are due to be submitted to him in the coming few days, and take appropriate action thereafter to seek a durable peace that would be acceptable to all communities living in Sri Lanka.

Foreign Minister Aso also extended an invitation to the Sri Lankan President to visit Japan at a mutually convenient time. Sri LankaLs Minister of Foreign Affairs Hon. Rohitha Bogollagama, Secretary to the President Mr. Lalith Weeratunga, Secretary Foreign Affairs Dr. Palitha Kohona and several other senior officials were associated with the meeting from the Sri Lankan sideJapan which is an observer nation of SAARC was represented at the 14th SAARC Summit in New Delhi by Foreign Minister Taro Aso.
